Design Thinking
Empathize, Define, Ideate, Prototype, Test
Design Thinking supports my ability to view the CPR access problem through the lens of empathy, identifying barriers faced by underserved populations. By framing ‘How might we make CPR training more accessible and equitable?’, I can generate creative, user-centered solutions.
I will conduct informal interviews or surveys with community members in Western North Carolina to identify specific barriers (cost, transportation, confidence). I will then sketch two prototype service models – a mobile van option and a hybrid online/on-site model.
Systems Thinking
Recognizing interconnected parts and feedback loops
Systems Thinking helps me understand how healthcare access, community awareness, and emergency response readiness interact within a larger public health system. My mobile CPR project addresses one node within that system to improve outcomes.
I will map out a system diagram showing relationships between community organizations, schools, health departments, and training providers. This will guide strategic partnerships and resource flow planning.
Global Awareness & Intercultural Competence
Respecting diverse perspectives and adapting communication across cultures
Many people in rural or minority communities distrust traditional institutions or lack exposure to health education. Cultural awareness helps ensure my CPR instruction is inclusive and sensitive to different learning styles, languages, and values.
I will adapt my promotional materials and training examples to reflect cultural diversity, ensuring language and imagery are inclusive. I will also reach out to a local multicultural center for feedback on my outreach approach.
Understanding Data
Using data to inform decisions and measure impact
Reliable data will demonstrate whether my mobile CPR project improves accessibility and readiness. Tracking participation, demographics, and retention can validate success and attract community or grant support.
I will design a basic spreadsheet or dashboard to track attendance, participant satisfaction, and confidence ratings. This data will help refine scheduling and marketing strategies.
Contemporary Media Literacies
Creating and curating digital content for persuasion and engagement
Media literacy supports my ability to design digital outreach materials – social media posts, flyers, and infographics – that persuade audiences to engage in CPR training. It also strengthens how I frame digital bedside manner in communication.
I will use Canva to create an information flyer and social media post that highlight CPR success statistics and promote flexible, community-based training opportunities.
Self-Awareness
Identifying values, strengths, and personal motivations
My project reflects my values of service, empowerment, and health equity. Self-awareness ensures I remain purpose-driven while balancing professional credibility with community empathy.
